Monthly Newsletter May 2025
Welcome to the May edition of the Concept Carpenters Monthly Newsletter!
As winter sets in across Auckland, our team has been hard at work—rain, wind, and all. From complex roof builds at the base of Mount Eden to steep-section deck installs on the North Shore, it’s been a month of pushing through the elements and delivering quality craftsmanship. This issue highlights some of the exciting projects underway, a few behind-the-scenes wins, and what’s coming up as we head into the colder months. As always, thank you for being part of the Concept community.
Below a piece of architectural brilliance - the Concept Mai Mai!
During the month of May, this second office held some very corporate discussions on cold, wintery mornings.
Innisfree Drive, Ellerslie
Since our last update, we’ve made some great progress at our beautiful townhouse development in Ellerslie. The roofing iron is now fully installed, giving the homes a solid crown. We’ve also completed the GIB Weatherline rigid air barrier system to the exterior walls and installed around 80% of the UPVC double-glazed joinery.
These homes are being built to last—warm, dry, and energy-efficient, thanks to state-of-the-art joinery systems and high-performance weather barriers and insulation.
To mark this major milestone, the clients held a roof shout last Friday with the fantastic team from Agents of Architecture. While roof shouts might be a bit of a forgotten tradition in the industry, we think they’re a brilliant way to pause, celebrate progress, and enjoy the journey, not just the finished product.
Glenwood Avenue, Birkenhead
Campbell and Liam—under the expert guidance of James—have been pushing through some seriously challenging conditions on this elevated timber deck build in Birkenhead, North Shore.
This project has thrown more than a few curveballs our way. With 200 SED piles, each 7 metres long and concreted 3 metres deep into a steep section, the groundwork alone was a major feat. Manoeuvring and bracing these piles was no easy task, but thanks to a specialised hydro-excavator, we successfully got them set and poured.
Now that we’re finally out of the ground and the deck framing is complete, we’re into laying some stunning Vitex hardwood decking. The only question is—will the weather gods play ball this week?
Only time (and the clouds) will tell.
Know someone with a carport or garage collecting dust?
They could be one build away from their dream gym, studio, or extra hangout space. Get in touch — we’d love to help.
Owens Road, Epsom
Winter has well and truly set in, but that hasn’t stopped Jack and Sam from making serious progress on this incredibly complex roof structure. Set at the foot of Mount Eden, the team has now framed two-thirds of the roof, with the final section—a steep 45-degree pitch on the southern elevation—up next.
Despite heavy downpours and cold conditions, the boys have delivered outstanding workmanship throughout. By the end of this week, we’re expecting to have the purlins installed and ready for roofing iron.
Fair to say, the roof shout could not come soon enough!
Maintenance Works
We’ve recently launched a dedicated maintenance division at Concept, focused on taking care of the jobs—big or small—that often get pushed to the bottom of the list. From replacing broken driveways to fixing leaking windows and tackling all those fiddly, time-consuming tasks, our team is here to help.
Whether you’re managing a rental or looking after your own home, if your property could use some attention, reach out to the team at Concept Maintain. We’re ready to bring the care and craftsmanship your property deserves.
Closing words
That’s a wrap for this month — thanks for following along with the action. Whether we’re framing walls, supporting the community, or flipping carports into gyms, we’re proud to build with purpose.
