Residential Renovation

The clients of this awesome 70's home were wanting a refresh, and to give it the functionality of a modern day home whilst not changing the appearance. The thorough team at Mercer and Mercer Architects went about the design in such a way to achieve this as best possible. This involved new double glazed aluminium joinery with Rimu jamb liners to keep with the interior feel. New insulated colour steel roof. New timber sheet cladding with battens on a cavity to replicate the old pine board and batten cladding that had passed its used by date.

In addition to the refresh of the main house, a new 4.5m square pool was added with a beautiful "A" frame outdoor Logia using cedar battens on the underside as decorative and functional touch, the glass of the logia tinted grey to help prevent a sweat on these sunnies days of recent. The very open plan outdoor area finished nicely with glass balustrades to keep the little ones out. Nice flowing steps inviting you from the front door after a busy day at work straight into the refreshing water of the pool.

The roadside was also refreshed with a new simple steel carport structure very minimal to the eye that blends in to its surroundings but offers great functionality. The carport finished with a glass roof fitting into aluminium channels. The old asphalt driveway ripped up and a simple, effective exposed concrete driveway laid. The team at Concept constructed concreted stairs from the road side to the front door for tiles to be laid on, and planter boxes where suited to give a green touch to the grey stone tiles. To finish a greenstone coloured large pivot front door to reflect Maori heritage of the clients.
